Jo Ellen Hogan      November 2, 2007

Jo Ellen Hogan, 533, of 2602 Faunn, Winona Lake, went to be with the Lord at 11:28 p.m. Nov. 2, 2007, in Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.
She was born April 17, 1954, in Wabash County Hospital to Kenneth and Martha Alice Frantz Dickey.  Mother, baby and doctor had an especially exhausting day due to a difficult delivery and the oppressive heat.  Keeping the windows open was a high priority to try to keep cool.
On July 20, 1974, she married Chuck Hogan, who preceded her in death.
Growing up, she enjoyed her school days at Silver Lake Elementary, her early church years at West Eel River Church of the Brethren and her 4-H activities.  Growing up on the farm and enjoying outside activities were very special to her.  She graduated from Warsaw Community High School, and her favorite extracurricular activity was Belles.  She was thrilled to be invited to be a part of the USA School Band and Chorus of America the summer before her senior year.
She received a bachelor's degree in home economics from Manchester College.  She taught at Warsaw Community Co-op Preschool for five years and was a librarian assistant at Warsaw Community Public Library for more than 20 years.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in many ministries within the church such as the Health and Wellness Center, Sacred Heart Choir, Vacation Bible School, Parish Library and the book sales at the church mission.  Her father's influence instilled in her the deep pacifist beliefs that she would carry with her throughout her entire life.  He also was a catalyst for her interest in ecology and nature.  Her public-speaking abilities, study habits, and cooking expertise were influences by her mother's tutelage.  Above all, being a good, Christian mother was her highest priority in life, setting a good example for her children.  Her deep faith was apparent.
Surviving are two devoted sons, Daniel and' Mikel, both at home; her father, Kenneth Leon Dickey, North Manchester; two sisters, Mrs. Gail (Mary Alice) Weber, Fairview, Tenn., and Mrs. Ted (Jane Anne) Curless, North Olmstead, Ohio; a brother, Ralph (and wife Dena) Dickey, Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.      She was preceded in death by her mother and a dear daughter, Sarah.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials to the Mikel Hogan Educational Trust Fund, 2602 Faunn St., Winona Lake, IN 46590.
Condolences may be sent to mchattonsadlerfuneralchapels.com   (10-28-2010)
